i must say, the advertising within these vods is ridiculous. game 2 right as an engagement ensues, bam! watch this awful commercial. its nearly enough for some good old alt f4 rage. you wanna advertise, put it in an appropriate spot. don't ruin big moments. that's like streaming your biggest championship in low quality. why would anyone want to support you?

An archive site as big as this does cost money to host the servers :) every game since the beta days is archived here.

Fully agreed with Arkefyre. Just rage alt-4 out of here if you're not happy. You can suscribe & pay & not get the ads actually, they even give you the choice.
I love the open culture that the internet has spawned, however it seems to me that at times it has also spawned a bit of a cry-baby attitude...

Cafe you are a joke. You are a part of this new generation that demands everything now, for free. Sit through a 30 second advert, it won't kill you.

okay, neither of you are subscribed, and i didn't complain about commercials being there. but as mutalisks fly over widow mines, you play a commercial? isn't the point of watching to WATCH the game? you two are worse than i, retorting with insults and mockery. i requested nothing for free. YOU TWO displayed some good character here.

like how dull are you guys to have even read "free?" where is that at all in the OP?
No, I am not suscribed, thus I understand the need for adds in my videos, and I also understand that no one will pay for an ad during the closing credits. So, an add in an important part of the video is probably something an advertisor pays more for...
Therefore, unsubscribed viewer that I am, fully accept that every once in a while an ad will cut my videos during the action. I just prefer that BMW, some weird dude that sells bogus get rip stuff with his videos or some new movie preview pay for maintaining this site than myself.
So I don't see why to start whinning about it on the forums....

To clarify something: SC2Casts does not put ads videos guys.
The ads you're seeing in VODs are put there either during the production of the video or by YouTube, during playback.
SC2Casts does not benefit from those ads whatsoever, they benefit solely the creator of the video.
The ads on this site are only in banner form.
Hope that clears it up!

^ i also never accused this website of being at fault. i didn't think you could just "insert ad here" in the middle of a several gig file you have received. erego my stab at gsl's video quality as well.

Ah, that thing about the videos not being SC2s ads is interesting. And weird, in a way, quite frankly: this means that SC2 casts is, in effect, giving away free advertising. As far as I know, pretty much all the time the ad revenus goes to the content provider, which in this case is SC2 casts.
As for Cafe, well perhaps I was a bit rash in my reply, but see, I still think the criticism in misplaced, whoever/whatever it is directed at. From my perspective, the fact that there is SO MUCH free content on the web is AMAZING. But still, someone has to pay for it. I work in IT, so perhaps I get so much into this dynamics that it makes me a bit irritable on subject.
But there is that weird thing about informatics in general: sharing it doesn't make it less, it makes it more. E.g. if you share content, freely, then people can build up on it, and the fact that someone is using it doesn't prevent someelse to do so as well (quite the contrary, it inspires, can become part of something else, such as these cast toghether making up live events AND this website). As opposed to a car, where if you give it to someone, other people don't have it. So there is an incentive to share things freely... but whoever does all this still needs to eat, right? So here comes advertising. I think it's a great arrangement, so I'm kind of edgy when people enjoy free stuff (awesome) and complain about the ads... You know.

@francisvachon26 - the content provider (on the GSL videos for example) is GOM. The videos are embedded directly from their YouTube channel, so the ad revenue goes to them as well as the choice of if and how to monetize them.
Again, just a clarification.

the only reason i ever commented on anything in this series was the ad popping up directly as a widow mine shot was in mid-air heading at mutalisks. that's either sincere bad luck on the part of the ad placer, or the dirtiest location i've ever seen a commercial. that's all. revenue, who gets paid from the advertising, why people advertise, none of that was important or a focus of the OP. it was purely the timing. reread, and you'll believe me. i even quipped at GOM because none of the crazy voices inside my head was sitting here telling me its Santah's fault. that'd be silly.
so, its a lot of internet bs over nothing in the end, as the entire point i was getting at hasn't even been discussed lol. i guess we've learned never to discuss ads because nobody seems to have a clue.

I apologize! x) I wasn't aware there weren't any ads directly from sc2casts, I've been premium since I got here because of how much I respect this project. Sorry for my lack of knowledge :P
