congrats to Uthermal! :)
Wtf these guys are shit players in the finals. Since they boycotted Koreans from playing the eu tournaments nothing by shit garbage players play in these tournaments. What a joke. The crappy bench warmers on the korean team will own the best Wu players.
Of course the Koreans are better than the EU/NA players, this hasn't changed in 18 years. Last year in Blizzcon, Lilbow got wrecked with absolutely no contest. Nothing has changed since then and it's unlikely that it will in the near future.
They're still the best of their nations however. And yeah I have to agree that Blizzard's treading on unsportsmanlike conduct with their latest policy. Any player from anywhere around the world should be allowed to participate in any tournament anywhere.
It doesn't really matter all that much to me however, GSL and SSL will still be the hardest tournaments in the SC2 business.
Blizzard simply made it super easy for the top 8 Koreans to make it to the quarter finals of Blizzcon, because they'll be nuking NA/EU players from orbit with their skills. Instead of seeing 15/16 Koreans in Blizzcon, we'll see 8. It just makes GSL and SSL even better compared to Blizzcon. Foreigners can only dream of making it into the ro64.
Blizzard changed WCS because they know Foreigners don't stand a chance otherwise, they admit the foreign scene isn't as competitive. But not like it'll matter when Blizzcon actually starts.
gg to Uthermal, but using names like Maru in the same breath with a Foreign Terran (Shame on you Todd) is just a big insult to someone of Maru's caliber. Everyone knows Uthermal would win maybe 1 out of 30 games vs Maru/TY, and only if he'd cheese. In straight up macro games he wouldn't even win 1 out of 200.
How is this unfair? Maybe African Basketball Championship should also allow countries from other continents compete? That wouldn't be fun for the local audience and even unfair to the local teams as they don't have the same financing.
To go with this analogy. Blizzcon is like Olympics. Top African basketball team will participate in the Olympics and will get demolished. But it's more fun for the global viewers.
1:16:00 is a highlight :D
I agree with Andy and Xeneonic. If there's ever to be a globally competitive >international< (=non-Korean-only) sc2-scene, I guess you have to foster it. And @Mattalianoelectric - even though they don't play at the Korean level, these are still pretty good sc2 players, delivering entertaining games.
@Andy
You're not putting up the correct analogy here. In fact, Koreans are allowed to play in IEM; but then they exclude themselves from Korean tournaments. So if it were up to Zest, he could be playing in IEM instead and it'd be allowed, but then you wouldn't see him in GSL/SSL.
So, they're either allowed to play OR in foreign tournaments OR korean tournaments.
It's the other way around too, if uthermal plays in GSL/SSL (assuming he gets past the qualifiers), then he's not allowed to play in IEM this year.
And that's why I think it's wonky.
p.s. I find locational bias a weird thing. Just because someone's born in your own country it is more likely that you become his fan than if it'd not be the case? It's more fun just because you see people play from your country vs people from your country? I don't know why it'd be more fun for the local audience, I'd much rather see Zest ,TY, Maru etc. play in my country than uthermal/harstem. (I'm Dutch)
But what do I know right?
Maruthermal? that's crossing the line
I can beat Maru more than 1/200 times and I'm not even that good. Eventually a rush will work.
@#8;
I did mention "maybe 1 out of 30 games vs Maru/TY, and only if he'd cheese."
The 1/200 is straight up macro fights/long games.
