You can just glance over the supply for 0.5 seconds every 20 seconds instead of just looking constantly at numbers going up or down.

Just because it's there doesn't mean you're forced to look at it. People nowadays don't have self-control and need things done for them.

A pity.



Iron discipline is truly the next step in human evolution, i agree. I wouldn't go so far as to bemoan this as a "modern" tendency, however. Men abuse their wives far less now, as self-control has gained.

It's just an annoying feature to have always present. For example, I'm leading a group of French tourists through the city of Torun. So far, the conversation is animated, and everyone really seems to be enjoying themselves. Outside of a bar we stop for drink under the umbrellas. I notice that people are much quieter, and less talkative. Yes, there is a giant TV on each wall, so that as the picture changes every 10 seconds, the human eye is instinctively drawn to it. This causes breaks in attention, and in my opinion ruined our time at the bar.

Yes, perhaps you as the next stage of human evolution are able to avoid looking at such rapid changes such as constantly shifting numbers and little boxes on the screen rapidly moving showing where players are looking. I, and probably most other people, am not. Such an advantage is not without its drawbacks, however. In the wild or in a hostile situation, your inability to subconsciously refocus attention on rapidly changing visual cues (an opponent pulling a knife or an animal darting from an opening on your periphery, for example) would increase the likelihood of unfavorable outcomes for yourself.

I guess that I am handicapped. My eye just goes right for things like that. But sometimes it's a good thing to not have temptations within such easy reach.

How about a compromise: a button to turn the display on or off. That way we both can be satisfied. Choice! That's the American way!
