Don't get why he showed voidray so early, the guy got up 5 spores by the time he got there - cool game though
If it was intentional, then it was probably to encourage the zerg to invest so heavily into static defenses. Every spore crawler he forces his opponent to create is 1 dead drone and 75 minerals on top of that.
He might have also been confident that his double stargate carrier opening would be strong enough to break through the static defenses put down for the void ray.
It was intentional, the overlord was in position to scout the carriers anyway.
